Qatif Municipal Council hosted on May 16, officials from the Arab Institute for Urban Development (AIUD) to discuss the possibility of establishing Child-Friendly City in Qatif. The meeting was attended by the members of the municipal and local councils and other officials in the government.
The governor of Qatif Khaled Al-Sufayan stressed the importance of this project to the province and said “it will meet children’s needs socially and develop the level of the provided services”.
On his part, Jafar Al-Shayeb a member in the municipal council and the one who organized this invitation said “the initiative needs for cooperation between various institutions to achieve the required services”.
He stressed that the municipal council is seeking to continue its efforts and plans to turn Qatif to a city for all categories.
On the other hand, Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Wail, director of Youth and Children Program in AIUD, pointed to the importance of cooperation between official and civil institutions and the private sector to achieve fruitful results and design a child-friendly city.
He said “the Governor of Qatif, Khaled Al-sufyan, showed his approval and support to this project and took the initiative to establish a child-friendly city in Qatif to be the second city applying this scheme”.
Al-Wail also pointed to the willing of the government represented in the municipality, the police, traffic and civil defense to adopt the project.
Social workers stressed as well the importance of this project for Qatif and other cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia especially that it is the first of its kind in the eastern region.
The program also included a meeting with real-estate developers and businessmen in Qatif. Also a public meeting was held in TCF to discuss the project with the civil society represents.
